Fabrics

We thought it would be interesting to look at some of our fabrics in more detail, so we are starting with our Liberty Art Fabric selection.  Over the coming weeks we will add photos of the fabrics with information about the fabric itself and the famous store in London responsible for it.

Kicking off here are a couple of the fabrics we currently stock ..

This fabric, a beautiful mixture of pinks and blues with tiny bits of yellow is called Ptolemy.  It is named after Ptolemy Dean who is known for tv shows about preserving British architecture. He is the 19th Surveyor Of The Fabric for Westminster Abbey. This print is based on a watercolour of the Liberty store facade as seen through a fuzzy TV screen and he remembers this from his childhood in the 1970's.  The fabric is the Spring Summer 2014 collection from the Gallery Of Prints collection.

In collaboration with the Liberty Design Team, Ptolemy hand drew the topographical sketch of Liberty's Neo Tudor archway.  The original sketch and watercolour is transformed into print to represent the iconic Street Level floor of the shop.  On this level are all the products which feature Liberty fabrics. Accessories such as journals and diaries, scarves, bags etc.

The fabric is a fine Tana Lawn, 100% cotton.

The fabric above represents the iconic Haberdashery department of Libertys, on the third floor. The fabric is called Poppy's Patchwork.  Originally a scarf design in 1975, it has been updated to represent a patchwork quilt. In this series from the Gallery of Prints collection, each fabric represents a different area of the store.

On the haberdashery floor of Liberty's store in London, they use the fabrics in many decorative ways.
